Revealing the hidden stories of the Nene Valley: A Landscape Partnership Scheme supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, beginning November 2017

Promoting, protecting and preserving the River Nene and its heritage

Please note that between June and October 2017, the project will be dormant while we await final confirmation from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

About the project

This Heritage Lottery funded collaborative project will bring together partners from along the River Nene between Northampton and Peterborough to celebrate, protect and conserve the natural and built heritage of the landscape. The River Nene Regional Park is leading the project in partnership with a wide range of organisations.

We submit our application to Heritage Lottery and if successful, we are due to start delivering projects in November 2017. Find out more about the Heritage Lottery Fund and landscape partnership schemes here.

The river valley has hidden gems – ancient mill sites, wintering bird habitats, nationally important Roman archaeology and buzzing wildflower meadows to name a few – but this special and underappreciated collection is under threat from fast population growth.

There are, however, many passionate organisations and individuals in the area working to look after the landscape and Nenescape will support their projects by increasing access into the landscape, sharing skills and knowledge across partners and ensuring that the river is resilient to increasing visitor numbers.

Read the latest version of our newsletter here, or watch the video (above right) to see an overview of the planned work with each of our partners.

Further information on the volunteering opportunities with Nenescape and our partners will be here from November 2017. We will look to recruit volunteers in three broad roles: historical research, public engagement and outdoor conservation. If you're already keen to get involved, please have a read of the role profiles by clicking on the images above. You are also welcome to register your interest by filling out the contact form, but please note we won't be able to offer any opportunities until November 2017.
