Main objectives

In this role, we are looking for people who are willing to:

  • Be based inside the Abbey or 18th Century Stable Block
  • Learn about the history of the building and its inhabitants
  • Talk to people if approached and answer questions
  • Contribute to team working across the Trust
  • Be physically fit and able to stand for certain periods of time

Tasks and activities:

  • Observing and manning a certain zone within Delapré Abbey
  • Speaking to visitors on Delapré’s history and answer any questions to the best of your ability
  • Engaging with the Abbey items and promoting the interactive nature of the site

Barbara Brinklow – Visitor Welcome Supervisor

Faye Morrissey – Visitor Services Manager

Location: Delapré Abbey – Fine Rooms, Medieval Zone, Nine Stories; Stable Block – 900 Years Exhibition

Work hours: 12.30pm – 5.00pm

Skills/attributes/experience desired

  • Experience of interacting with a wide range of people in a friendly, calm manner
  • Comfortable working in a team or an individual basis
  • Eager to expand personal knowledge

  • In House History Training
  • In House Abbey Host Training
  • In House Health and Safety/Manual Handling
  • In House Fire Safety

Any other relevant information

You will need to attend a “Welcome” day which will introduce you to Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust, provide information on the role and meet some of our current volunteers.

This will be followed by your first volunteering session which will become your “induction” – including site tour and supervisor meet.
