Title of role: Gardens Volunteer

Main objectives

In this role, we are looking for people who are willing to:

  • Develop and improve their basic gardening skills
  • Be part of a team
  • Be led and directed by a supervisor
  • Come in “mucky clothes” and want to get stuck into dirty tasks
  • Volunteer in varied weather and temperature conditions

Tasks and activities

Principle tasks involved:

  • Seasonal planting
  • Weeding
  • Replacing signage
  • Garden designing and maintenance

Reporting to

Barbara Brinklow – Visitor Welcome Supervisor

Faye Morrissey – Visitor Services Manager

Location: Walled garden, outer gardens, Abbey environment

Work hours: Regular on a weekly basis; seasonally dependent

Skills/attributes/experience desired: The Trust is searching for people who already have a basic understanding of gardening, plants, and tools.

Training provided?

You will need to attend a “Welcome” day which will introduce you to Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust, provide information on the role and meet some of our current volunteers. This will be followed by an initial discussion with the Community Engagement Team, and then your first volunteering session which will become your “induction” – including site tour and supervisor meet.
